autumn. finally.

Autumn! my favourite time of the year, especially in cape town. Iv'e been waiting and waiting for the appropriate time to haul out my winter boots, stockings, woollen beanies and leather gloves and wear them paired with my new beautiful dark plum coloured lipstick. I love autumn for its cold mornings and clear days, the yellow leaves, the increase of tea drinking, the rain.
In other news, my college has been giving away really old-looking books and I've managed to collect 3 full boxes of them for decor [is it bad to want books just to display them?] anyway, im sure they will add to the autumn feeling. lastnight G and I went to a wedding on a wine estate in Stellenbosch. goodness it was beautiful, & now we're supposed to be having tea with a few of the other guests. oh heck, I must run or I'm going to be late!

peace out

wednesday ramblings

Happy day-after-valentines-day. I hope you're all still basking in the sunshine and happiness of yesterday. Mine was, happily, simple. G wrote me a love letter and I made dinner -picnic style- and cookie dough icecream. As you can see, valentines day makes my inner culinary goddess run rampant [sarcasm] at any rate, I am thankful for valentines day because for days afterward we have lindt chocolate lying around the house. As if it was normal.

Tonight is exciting. I have been waiting for tonight since last year. G got us tickets to see Shakespeares' A comedy of errors at Maynardville. I love watching his plays there & i've done it ever since I was 13. It's magical and really the only way for Shakespeare to be done (although it usually rains). [a lovely thing to do]:

I hope your wednesday has been as dreamy and relaxed as mine. 2 productive days per week are quite enough for me. x

apple pie

It's alright, you don't need to die of shock. I've just been away for a while. but im back [and when i say away i mean distracted by life] Happy Easter* today was the most perfect Easter day. It was overcast and rainy- which meant that after church and after our sundayroast we really had no excuse not to crawl back into our beds and hide there for the remainder of the day with our books and abundance of chocolate eggs.
[its autumn good and proper, this means that the baking starts tomorrow]

we have been re-united with our winter closets. although this has brought with it the re-uniting of us and cold dark mornings-when its painful to get out of bed and wait in the icy-darkness for the shower to warm up. meh.

"There is a harmony in autumn, and a luster in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been" -Percy Bysshe Shelley
This past week G and i went to two of the most amazing food-eating places i have ever been to. On tuesday night we went to The Bombay Bicycle Club and really the atmosphere [in the small, dimly lit, smoke and incense filled room] far surpassed the food &the food was amazing. Then lastnight we went to Royale, which he had been threatening to take me to for a long time, and the food [really the burgers] were more lovely than i could have imagined. [so it is food that has been largely occupying my time] cold weather is comfort food time -'smores for the win- and Easter is the beginning of the 'get fat for winter' stage. [but. lets be honest. its like this for me the whole year 'round]
i promise to be a better blogger* you're champions for hanging in there.

yesiamsupposedtobeworking

[ten minute blog break]
so its pretty much friday already. I cant even remember monday. [is that a problem?]

My dad got home from Ethiopia yesterday & he brought back the most amazing dresses for us. princess dresses. He also brought back 5bags of insanely strong coffee, which has resulted in our kitchen smelling like the compost section at a nursery.

I spent the afternoon with the man on the beach. or, watching the beach. Which may or may not lead to me having to stay up all night to finish this assignment. If you're ever in Ethiopia you need to try wushwush tea. Its pretty darn exciting.

a definite autumn feeling in the air [hums along to yellow submarine]
time is up. farewell.
"Let the world despise and leave me, they have left my Savior, too;
Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like them, untrue.
And while Thou shalt smile upon me, God of wisdom, love and might,
Foes may hate and friends disown me, show Thy face and all is bright."

post-christmas nostalgia

in the midst of the christmas craziness here are some of the things i liked this week:
[putting off posting about christmas because when i post about it, its really over]

"Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80’s movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80’s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason." -Easy A.

death

thursday! Today I had a ministry training conference all day and our speakers were amazing because well, they just were and they were all from england* yay england.so i thought that amongst my favourite pictures from this past week id put some "death" quotes up, its just important to think about it :)

Oh, may I join the choir invisible
Of those immortal dead who live again.
~George Eliot, The Choir Invisible

For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. ~William Penn

And they die an equal death - the idler and the man of mighty deeds. ~Homer, Iliad

There's nothing certain in a man's life except this: That he must lose it. ~Aeschylus, Agamemnon

The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity. ~Seneca

cake or death?

Thursday is such an awkward day, its almost friday but its not quite there yet. Today was a happy, gooey day which you need once in a while* these are the beautiful pictures that I found today and just looked so perfect that I had to put them up here

[the buttercream layer cake looks super amazing]

"Cake or death?" That's a pretty easy question. Anyone could answer that.
"Cake or death?"
"Eh, cake please."
"Very well! Give him cake!"
"Oh, thanks very much. It's very nice."
"You! Cake or death?"
Uh, cake for me, too, please."
"Very well! Give him cake, too! We're gonna run out of cake at this rate.

You! Cake or death?" "Uh, death, please. No, cake! Cake! Cake, sorry. Sorry..."
"You said death first, uh-uh, death first!"
"Well, I meant cake!"
"Oh, all right. You're lucky I'm Church of England!" Cake or death?"

I hope you have a lovely rest of the day*

Make sure you look before you cross the road, right T?

night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"

[i just watched glee and this is my new favourite song*]

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you’ll miss me
While I’m alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I’m longin’ to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars shining up above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Yes, dream a little dream of me
