V for violets

happy birthday pretty lady. you are awesome [and so is your blog] i wish i had something clever to say- some birthday-ish advice but i have nothing so im stealing from C.S Lewis*

keep being beautiful

[the christmas post has arrived]

I cant believe its over, and now i have to take down my tree, pack my gingerbread recipes away, hide the christmas decorations and find new excuses for eating vast amounts of food. Bleh.

"Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." -Norman Vincent Peale

"I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." -Charles Dickens

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."-Author unknown, attributed to a 7-year-old named Bobby

"I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month."-Harlan Miller

"Sing hey! Sing hey!
For Christmas Day;
Twine mistletoe and holly.
For a friendship glows
In winter snows,
And so let's all be jolly!"
-Author Unknown
[i wish that next year, i could have a white christmas]

post-christmas nostalgia

in the midst of the christmas craziness here are some of the things i liked this week:
[putting off posting about christmas because when i post about it, its really over]

"Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in 80’s movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80’s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason." -Easy A.

no i have not fallen off the face of the earth

a short post to tell you that i am, in fact, alive and that my summer-which is not even half way yet- has been amazingly wonderful. filled with roadtrips and sunshine, singing to songs we dont know the words to, camping, 2nd hand clothes stores, challenges, salticrax, laughter, deep moments, love, new places, late night whisperings, getting lost, finding our way,

weddings, rain, happiness, relying on people, panic, driving, sugar to keep us awake, marshmallows and chocolate, secrets, sleeping in petrol stations, showering in basins,

early morning coke binges, toerings, camp, sadness, love, butterflies, heat, clouds, sickness, vanilla, bestfriends, worry, phonecalls, tans, new sandals, new friends, kisses, dancing, marcels and milkshakes, photos, love, God, singing and family.

[and ofcourse christmas baking*]

3 days to go x

Venite adoremus, Dominum

You know its christmastime when the decorations start going up. Tonight we put the christmas tree up in our ritualistic way that goes something like this; my mom breaks out the mince pies and the christmas biscuits to get everyone motivated, my dad gets the tree out and arranges it while my sisters organize the decorations, i take photos, someone puts music on and we all sing along to 'rudolph the red nosed reindeer', we dress up in the tinsel and pretend that we're princesses, my parents fight about how the lights are going to be placed on the tree, after 2 hours we finally hang the decorations, we then get bored and go off with the christmas biscuits and our duvets into the lounge to watch christmas movies until the early morning.

[i wish we had snow for christmas]

I've always loved, O come all ye faithful. For our school carol services we used to sing some verses of the song in latin. That was my favourite part of the carol service.

Cantet nunc hymnos
Chorus angelorum
Cantet nunc aula caelestium
Gloria, gloria
In excelsis Deo
Venite adoremus, Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus, Dominum

[have a magical night]

But there's something in the air
They share a look in silence and everything is understood

yuletide time*

decembertime! one of the things i love most about this time of year are the advent calendars. they are guilt-free chocolates for every day until christmas- and they taste amazing- so i had my first one today*

[this song has been in my head for days]
Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, an out-of-space convertible too, light blue
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'd check off my Christmas list

happy december
