cupcakes for peter

[happy tuesday] the best thing about public holidays is that they make the rest of the week go so much faster. [and i just want to get to saturday morning]

"Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words." 1 Thessalonians 4 13-18

death

thursday! Today I had a ministry training conference all day and our speakers were amazing because well, they just were and they were all from england* yay england.so i thought that amongst my favourite pictures from this past week id put some "death" quotes up, its just important to think about it :)

Oh, may I join the choir invisible
Of those immortal dead who live again.
~George Eliot, The Choir Invisible

For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity. ~William Penn

And they die an equal death - the idler and the man of mighty deeds. ~Homer, Iliad

There's nothing certain in a man's life except this: That he must lose it. ~Aeschylus, Agamemnon

The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity. ~Seneca

For you are with me

Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.” -Eskimo proverb

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. -Psalm 18v2

there was snow, white snow

The Cape winter weather has set in- its so different from the smoky Gauteng winter.Ive spent the last 6 days with my family in Joburg [for my grandmothers funeral]and really although it was sad, it was lovely to see people that I havent seen for ten years* [yes nicky im talking about you] and that made me happy. Now im off, to paint my nails ash rose, to read Dan Brown and to dream of summer.

Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember
There was snow
White snow

Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze
Down below

When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
Hollowed out to fit their rifles
And the cross was held aloft

Bury me in armor
When I'm dead and hit the ground
A love back home unfolds

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier
Who the captain of some sinking ship
Would stow, far below

So if you love me
Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to Violet Hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still

So if you love me
Won't you let me know?

If you love me,
Won't you let me know?

how do you feel about death?

My grandmother is dying. She has been for 6 years but she only has a few days left. In addition to the morbidness this news has brought upon our family it has brought too the reality of death. Everyone dies, we just live pretending we wont.

" You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapour that appears for a little while and then vanishes away" James 4v14

Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.
We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor, and my leisure too,
For his civility.

We passed the school, where children strove
At recess, in the ring;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.

Or rather, he passed us;
The dews grew quivering and chill,
For only gossamer my gown,
My tippet only tulle.

We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible,
The cornice but a mound.

Since then 'tis centuries, and yet each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses' heads
Were toward eternity
.- Emily Dickinson

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life" Romans 6v23
